Finnish police on Friday released a woman suspected of involvement with the Somali militant group al-Shabab from custody. However the other suspect in the case, a 34-year-old man, remains in custody on suspicion of engaging in the recruitment and financing of terrorists.
The Helsinki District Court freed the woman as there were insufficient grounds for her detention. Police will meanwhile continue to investigate the woman's activities, says Kaj-Erik Björkqvist of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). The court, however, placed the 28-year-old woman under a travel ban, as it considered her a flight risk.
The NBI is demanding that the male suspect be kept under lock and key.
Both suspects are Somali citizens living in Finland.
Police have been investigating the case since last spring. Officials have until December 15 to formally charge the suspects.
