Forum on Muslim Domestic Violence

The Daily Record

A forum to discuss domestic violence will be held Oct. 16 at the Jam-E-Masjid Islamic Center in honor of a Boonton woman who was allegedly shot to death by her husband’s mistress in August.

A 4:45 p.m. walk and vigil will follow the 3 p.m. forum in honor of Nazish Noorani, who was allegedly killed by her conspiring husband’s mistress on Aug. 16 as they took an evening walk near the intersection of William and Cornelia streets.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s office

days later charged both Kashif Parvaiz
(Noorani’s husband) and Massachusetts
resident  Antoinette Stephen with
Noorani’s murder.

Local religious leaders, members of the prosecutor’s office, Jersey Battered Women’s Service and Wafa House will be on hand at 3 p.m. at the Islamic Center to discuss the following:
? What people can do when they suspect abuse or know about abuse;

? How law enforcement can protect victims;

? How to face cultural resistance to action;

? How to overcome obstacles to escaping the abuse;

? How witnessing abuse impacts children;

? How local domestic violence agencies can assist victims.

Following Parvaiz’s arrest, police released text messages sent by Noorani to her brother indicating that Parvaiz likely would kill her.

Parvaiz suffered non-life-threatening bullet wounds during the crime. Police theorize Parvaiz and Stephen staged the scene to make it look like he and Noorani, with whom he had two children, were attacked at random.
