His remains were taken from a mausoleum in Ramallah, in the West Bank, to a mosque where samples were taken from his bones. Under Islamic law only Muslims are permitted to handle a Muslim's remains, with the samples set to be handed over to experts from France, Switzerland and Russia who will examine them in their own countries.
