Tripoli Bomb on French Embassy ... Could It Be Islamists?

A bomb exploded Tuesday in front of the French Embassy in downtown Tripoli, injuring two French guards and destroying much of the diplomatic compound.

People stand among debris outside the French embassy in Tripoli after the building was attacked Tuesday.

It was the first large-scale attack against foreigners in Libya since the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador.

No one has claimed responsibility for Tuesday's blast, which authorities said appeared to have been a car bomb.

Libyan Interior Minister Ashour Shweil said it was too early to say whether the attacks against the French and the Americans were linked. Libyans have yet to arrest any suspects in the Benghazi attack.
